UNIVERSITAS ANDALAS
Terletak di wilayah perbukitan Limau Manis, Kecamatan Pauh, kira-kira 15 Km dari Padang, ibukota Sumatera Barat. Kampus Universitas Andalas mencakup area seluas 500 hektar. Daerah ini disebut sebagai Bukik Karamuntiang / Hill of “Rhodomyrtus tomentosa, dan terletak pada ketinggian ± 255 m di atas laut.
Bangunannya memiliki arsitektur yang unik: kombinasi dari model atap tradisional Minangkabau (tanduk kerbau) dan struktur yang bergaya modern. Universitas sedang dalam proses melengkapi fasilitas-fasilitasnya untuk mengakomodasi aktivitas akademik dan ekstrakurikuler.
Hampir semua fakultas terletak di Limau Limau Manis, kecuali Fakultas Kedokteran yang terletak di daerah Jati (kampus pertama), Padang, dan Politeknik Pertanian di Payakumbuh.

Faculty of Agriculture was established in 1954. Currently, it has five departments:
1. Department Of Agronomy
This department has two study programs:
Agronomy Program
It is aimed at preparing the students to be professional engineers in the field of Agronomy. Their basic knowledge in this major is also aimed at preparing them for master and doctor degree.
Plant Breeding Program
It is aimed at preparing the students to be professional engineers in the field of plant breeding. Their basic knowledge in this major is also aimed at preparing them for master and doctor degree.
It has several laboratories:
* Laboratory for Ecology and Climatology
* Laboratory for Biotechnology
* Laboratory for Plant Physiology
* Laboratory for Plant Breeding and Genetics
* Laboratory for Breeding Technology
* Laboratory for Crops Science
* Laboratory for Industrial Plantation

2. Department of Soil Science
This program is aimed at preparing the students to be professional engineers in the field of soil science. Their basic knowledge in this major is also aimed at preparing them for master and doctor degree.
This department has several laboratories:
* Laboratory for Genesis and Soil Classification
* Laboratory for Soil Conversion
* Laboratory for Physics and Water
* Laboratory for Soil Fertility
* Laboratory for Soil Mapping and Survey
* Laboratory for Soil Biology
3. Department of Plant Pests and Diseases
This program is aimed at preparing the students to be professional engineers in the field of plant pests and diseases. Their basic knowledge in this major is also aimed at preparing them for master and doctor degree.
This Department has five laboratories:
* Laboratory for Plant Diseases
* Laboratory for Plant Pests
* Laboratory for Microbiology
* Laboratory for Entomology
* Laboratory for Intensive Pest Controlling
4. Department of Agriculture and Social Economics
This department has two programs:
Agribusiness
It is aimed at preparing the students to be professional engineers in the field of Science and Technology of Agribusiness. Their basic knowledge in this major is also aimed at preparing them for master and doctor degree.
Study of Agriculture Extension and Communication
It is aimed at preparing the students to be professional engineers of Science and Technology in the Study of Agriculture Extension and Communication. Their basic knowledge in this major is also aimed at preparing them for master and doctor degree.
This department has one laboratory for Study of Agribusiness.
5. Department of Agricultural Technology
Department of Agricultural Technology has two study programs:
Agricultural Engineering
It is aimed at preparing the students to be professional engineers in the field of science and technology of agricultural engineering. Their basic knowledge in this major is also aimed at preparing them for master and doctor degree.
Food Science Department
It is aimed at preparing the students to be professional engineers in the field of food science. Their basic knowledge in this major is also aimed at preparing them for master and doctor degree.
This department has 12 laboratories:

The facilities provided by the faculty include green house, farm, field research laboratory (wet and dry land), computer with LAN (Local Area Network), and workshop. The faculty has also one accredited National Journal, STIGMA, in the field of Agricultural Science.

Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa is the highest student board in the university where students deliver their social and political aspiration, and render their participation. It was established based on the decree of the Minister of Education and Culture, SK Mendikbud U/155/1991. As a student board, it is supposed to highly observe the Three University Services / Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi as the normative basis for all staff and students.
Currently, begins to manage its organization like that of a state. This style of management, based on the decision of its second congress on 28 February- 3 March 2003, would be effective 6 months after the congress. The board strives to improve the students’ political education so that they can contribute to the dynamics of their campus activities. Among others, they have organized an event entitled “A Chat on the National Politics” presenting Rico Marbun, the former president of the University of Indonesia’s Student Executive Board, and Saldi Isra, a lecturer of Law Faculty of Andalas University and political observer.
UNAND Student Executive Board is a pioneer of the West Sumateran Student Executive Board, which consists of all Student Executive Boards in West Sumatera. Together they are active in criticizing and controlling local and national government’s policies. These activities are carried out in the forms of delegation action, sympathetic action, public oration, statement of stance, press release, and the like.
It also fights for students’ rights for better services on campus such as in demanding better transportation facilities. This is one of the priorities of the Students Board for which they have a special department, which is called Students Welfare Department.
In fact, it does not only manage some internal affairs on campus, but they also care for the external problems in the society. It has conducted some social events in collaboration with the State Electricity Company. Some of their social activities are: donating books, pencils, pens and the like, and performing en masse circumcision for the poor around the campus. The most recent one was conducted on July 17th, 2003. These two activities are among the students’ ways of helping the surroundings.

Core Work of Research Institution is to coordinate, monitor, evaluate and manage research activities, which are conducted in the Research Center, Study Center, and Faculties. Research Institution also manages interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary researches.
